Learn the basics of pictorial weaving through the use of humble materials and step-by-step instruction. A common picture frame, with glass and backing removed, becomes the ultimate structure with which to create upon—wound with cotton thread, and laced with a variety of yarns, this process can yield endless possibilities!

In this class, visual artist Allyce Wood demonstrates the principles of a loom, the terms of weaving, and how to utilize color. We discuss concepts of tension and thread patterns, elements that contribute to a polished, lasting artwork. Wood demonstrates techniques in person and also offers guidance as you create your own piece. Bring your creative spirit and unique perspective—together we use a variety of techniques to create one-of-a-kind designs, building motifs thread by thread. Your registration includes a materials fee of $12. The materials kit includes:

  • 8x10 frame for your loom
  • Yarn in multiple colors
  • Tapestry needle
