January 12: Construction Update

Written January 11, 2018

What an amazing year it has been—it is with excitement that we announce the completion of the building envelope! There are just a few finishes to complete and fixtures to install, but we expect to wrap up interior work over the next few weeks. Final cleaning, commissioning, and balancing, in addition to landscaping and concrete pours along Market Street will occur through the end of the month. Pacific Studio, our exhibition fabricators, have been focusing on staging in preparation for the installation of the Museum's new core exhibition on the second floor. We will share images and news as exhibition work advances.

Over the next 30 days...

Our staff will be undertaking a significant move process, relocating contents and offices over the next two weeks. We will be busy as bees boxing, labeling, staging, and unpacking 38 years of Museum materials. (For that reason, our response time to email and phone inquiries may be impacted, but please be assured we will follow up as promptly as possible.)

Want to keep track of the Museum's progress?

We'll be posting updates to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, so be sure to follow us! For the latest drone footage, check out our YouTube channel.

Campaign Update

Thank you to Scan Design Foundation for the generous support of our upcoming May 2018 Grand Opening celebration! We are still actively pursuing corporate support for these festivities.

Many thanks to all those who answered the call of the Osberg Challenge with year-end cash gifts to the Capital Campaign! We were able to fully fund the $250,000 challenge by end-of-day December 29. These combined efforts resulted in an additional $500,000 toward the closing of the gap.

Special thanks to the Osbergs and to matching donors:
William Jones and Maria Jones Staaf, The Ness Family,
Bob Wiley, Sven and Marta Kalve, Kari Gilje
and Michael Chiu, and Steven and Kelly Barker.

Even though this latest challenge is fully funded, we are still looking to secure major gifts to help us reach our goal, and we know every donation makes a difference! It is not too late to make a gift during our Winter Appeal.

Looking for a way to contribute to the new Museum right now?

How about a family gift in memory of a relative? Or perhaps you would like to make a legacy gift to the new Nordic Museum in honor of someone who has shared the Nordic Spirit with you? What about the gift of membership for those you want to include in May’s Grand Opening?

  • Give the gift of a plaque! Time is running out to purchase during the first phase of this program. Plaques purchased before January 31 will be in place for the May opening. Don't miss your chance to take advantage of this special opportunity. Each plaque will be displayed in the East Garden or streetscape areas, serving as a vital visual reminder of how our dedicated community came together to make the new Nordic Museum a reality.
  • Make a gift to the campaign! We're still seeking gifts that can be made as multi-year pledges or single donations.
  • Become a Member! Nordic Heritage Museum Members get more, especially when it comes to the new Museum! If you join now, you'll get all the usual perks, plus access to Members-only events in the month leading up to the opening and the opportunity to visit the new Museum before it opens to the public.

For more information about plaques, donations, membership, legacy giving, or other ways to support the Museum, please contact Deputy Director Jan Woldseth Colbrese at 206.789.5707 x39 or janwc@nordicmuseum.org.

We are in the final stages of the project, and we need your help to finish strong!
