The Sami are Scandinavia’s only UN-recognized indigenous people, and have a culture rich with fiber traditions. In Advanced Sami Knitted Mitten Techniques, students will be introduced to Sami mittens and some of the more difficult techniques while creating a several sample swatches: right and left leaning slyngborden, three ways to do right and left leaning slyngborden cast-ons (in two and three colors), and a 4-strand, round braid with tassels.

 

Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced

 

What to Bring: Worsted weight, wool yarn — two accent colors and a main color; needles to achieve a gauge of 5sts/in (Rauma Vamsegarn knit on US 5 / 3.75 mm needles, recommended)

 

Other Information: Participants should be very comfortable casting on, knitting and purling in the round, and doing color work.
