Recharge from your day with an evening of creativity and fun! Join us for our virtual Crafts & Cocktails event to get a mini-virtual tour from one our docents, learn a cocktail recipe, and make a craft using supplies you have around the house.
This October craft is a cozy one loosely inspired by the pattern-work of Danish textile artists such as Vibeke Klint.
We will take a favorite (or found) landscape image and use a simple process to recreate the image into a minimalist grid. The soothing work of filling small squares with color is a balm for the frayed nerves of this season. This is an easy craft that, after a little setup, yields sublime, unique results.
The materials are:
- Paper sturdy enough for watercolors
- Watercolor paints and brush (* anything with a wide color range will work if watercolors aren't available, such as colored pencils or pastels)
- Landscape photo image (can be a printout from your life or torn from a magazine, but nothing precious as we will make marks on it. Also if the chosen image is smaller than your paper size it makes setup easier).
- pencil and eraser
- ruler
- masking tape
Here is what you'll need for this month's cocktail
- Whiskey (any kind)
- Apple cider
- Lemon juice
- Sweet vermouth
- Orange bitters
- Potentially a splash of aquavit
Cost: $5
