
This program has been organized by the National Nordic Museum and the University of Washington’s Scandinavian Studies Department.
This panel will examine current attitudes in the Nordic countries toward the United States. Thought leaders with backgrounds in journalism, government, culture, and business will also offer suggestions on how the US might strengthen its ties to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, as well as the autonomous territories of the Faroe Islands and Greenland over the next four years.
Panelists:
- Maria Annala, journalist and Visiting Research Fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs
- Nauja Bianco, Executive Director of the North Atlantic House and the Greenlandic House, Odense, Denmark
- Ola Larsmo, author of nine novels and freelance critic for Sweden’s largest newspaper Dagens Nyheter
- Dr. Silja Bárá Ómarsdóttir, Professor of International Affairs, University of Iceland
- Eivind Reiten, economist and corporate officer, formerly Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Petroleum and Energy
The panel will be moderated by Jay L. Bruns III, Member of the National Nordic Museum’s Board of Trustees, Adjunct Lecturer in Scandinavian Studies, at the University of Washington, and retired diplomat. You can read panelist bios here.
