Summer 2021 Virtual Folk School Series: Rosemaling with Lise Lorentzen
Jun 27, 2021
10:00am - 10:30am PST

This class is a part of a summer-long series. You do not need materials or supplies for these classes. You can purchase access to all five mini classes at a reduced rate here.

Welcome to Rosemaling with Lise Lorentzen, What is rosemaling, you may ask? Rosemaling is the beautiful, Norwegian decorative folk art painting style that thrived in Norway from the late 1600s through the late 1800s.

Rosemaling seemed to die out after the influx of Norwegian immigrants to America. Thankfully, there were a few rosemaling artists that pulled the art style through the beginning of the twentieth century, where rosemaling took on a new life in the United States and in Norway. Today, rosemaling is enjoyed by artists from all around the world. Lise Lorentzen is one such rosemaling artist, who began rosemaling for the first time at eleven years old. Now, years later, she has become known for her rosemaling commissions, teaching, and online presence.

In this presentation for the series, Lise will demonstrate the lyrical stroke work of rosemaling and discuss some of the history and fine points of this artform. Lise truly believes that for rosemlaing and other art forms to survive they must be shared as much as possible.

The link to this class video will be sent to you before the program date. Please contact Kate Dugdale with any questions.

Cost: $5 for Members; $8 general admission
