Come have a little fun! Whether you are a general fan of all things miniature or hoping to get past your intimidation of tiny-gauge sock needles, this mini-mitten class is for you. Mini mittens make cute holiday decorations for your tree, packages, lapel, or mantle. These mittens are purely decorative—no need to worry about gauge or perfection. Grab some fingering weight yarn, coffee, and your smallest needles (or, if you prefer, thicker yarn and appropriately sized needles) and make some mini mittens with motifs adapted from traditional Norwegian and Sámi mittens. Colorwork charts and extra colored yarn for decoration will be provided.

  • Finished size: 1-3” depending on needle size and finished gauge
  • Yarn: fingering weight wool (suggested colors: white, red, blue, green)
  • Recommended needles size: US 0, 1, 1.5, or 2 (2.0 mm, 2.25 mm, 2.5 mm, 2.75 mm) double pointed and/or circular for magic loop.
  • Skills: casting on, knit and purl, decrease, knitting in the round. This can be a low-stress intro to stranded colorwork or duplicate stitch.
  • Notions: tapestry needle, scissors

Cost: $80 for members, $90 for general admission

Due to the intimate setting for this on-site class, the National Nordic Museum is requiring that all class participants be vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may include CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), documentation from a health care provider, or state immunization system record.
