Felt is also called the “clay of textiles”. Felted flowers are perfect examples to understand this statement.
In this workshop you will learn to felt a complex 3D shape felt flower without using any resists. We’ll construct the flower step-by step starting with the stamen, attaching the petals, the stem and the leaf, from 19 micron merino wool. Using soap, water and agitation, the loose fibers will tangle and shrink, and become a strong material, felt.

Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

What to Bring: Notebook, pen/pencil for notes, 2 hand towels, 1x1’ rug or foam drawer liner (with small holes), 1x1’ cotton sheet (old cloth), 1 olive or coconut oil soap bar in a container, 1 quart bowl for water, Felting sprinkler (optional), Apron (optional)

Other Information: A materials fee of $6 is included in registration. Materials fee will cover the costs for hand dyed super fine merino wool and silk fibers.

Cost: $91 for members, $101 for general admission

Due to the intimate setting for this on-site class, the National Nordic Museum is requiring that all class participants be vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may include CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), documentation from a health care provider, or state immunization system record.
