From Las Hermanas Iglesias:

Our collaborative name, Las Hermanas Iglesias, speaks to our identity as woven into histories and philosophies of feminism and collaboration. As the children of Norwegian and Dominican immigrants who grew up in Queens, New York City, our project-based, trans-disciplinary work explores issues of hybridity, social participation and transnational identities. For the past 15 years, we have maintained a trans-media, genre-blurring collaboration alongside individual practices rooted in Sculpture and Drawing. Our collective has fluidly evolved to include a number of team efforts and variations including steady collaborations with our mother, Bodhild.  Through employing playful structures that respond to the community and geographical context of each project, Las Hermanas Iglesias create artworks that disrupt borders, engage absurdity, and promote the benefits of working together.

Lisa is currently an Associate Professor at Mount Holyoke College and Janelle teaches at the University of California San Diego. Bodhild, Lisa and Janelle’s collective projects have been featured at the Textile Arts Center, Ortega y Gasset, BRIC, and New Mexico State Art Museum among others.
