The Museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 10am to 5pm.

Members: Please before reserving your free tickets or registering for events. Membership discounts are applied at checkout. In compliance with King County mandates, the National Nordic Museum requires that all visitors over the age of 12 be vaccinated against COVID-19 or, alternatively, show proof of a negative COVID-19 test completed within 72 hours of your visit. As part of Taste of Iceland, please join us for a fireside chat with Consul General Nikulás Hannigan. Hannigan is the Icelandic Trade Commissioner to North America and the Consul General for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island. 

The office is focused on the economic opportunities between the United States and Iceland, specifically in the areas of the Blue Economy, life sciences, energy, food and beverages, tourism, foreign direct investment and culture and the creative arts. 

The National Nordic Museum is requiring that all participants be vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may include CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), documentation from a health care provider, or state immunization system record.

Nikulás Hannigan is the Icelandic Trade Commissioner to North America and the Consul General for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

About the Speaker

Nikulás Hannigan is the Icelandic Trade Commissioner to North America and the Consul General for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island. 

He has thirty years´ experience in trade and foreign affairs, most recently as Director-General of External Trade at the Foreign Ministry in Reykjavik. His diplomatic career includes postings as Deputy Head of Mission in Brussels and New York. He holds an MA degree in English literature and language from the University of Oxford and an MSc degree in linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Nikulás Hannigan was born in Toronto, Canada in 1957 and is married to Dr. Rán Tryggvadóttir. They have two sons. He arrived in New York in August 2021

About the Moderator

Jay Bruns is Senior Climate Policy Advisor to the Washington State Insurance Commissioner. Bruns is a board trustee of the National Nordic Museum and advisory board member of the Scandinavian Studies Department at the University of Washington.

Jay Bruns is Senior Climate Policy Advisor to the Washington State Insurance Commissioner. Bruns is a board trustee of the National Nordic Museum and advisory board member of the Scandinavian Studies Department at the University of Washington.  

During his previous career as a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State, Bruns represented the United States twice in Norway, including as “charge’ d’affaires” (acting ambassador.) 

Bruns holds a B.A (Colorado College) and an M.A. (George Washington University), and he studied at the National War College and the University of Copenhagen. He speaks Norwegian, Danish and German, and some Japanese.
